The Good Fats And The Bad Fats That You Eat
By aussietaff
You have most likely heard about the good fats and the bad fats, but there is another fat that you probably have not heard too much about, these are sometimes referred to as hidden fats.

Firstly I will run through the Bad Fats, Saturated Fats, these are usually solid fats, found in butter, fatty meats, also in Takeaways and Biscuits, or Cookies. As you know, there is Good Cholesterol and Bad Cholesterol, this type of fat can increase the level of harmful, bad cholesterol and and lower your levels of good cholesterol. They can increase your chances of developing heart disease, or stroke. This is one type, you should try reducing your intake.

This is the Hidden one, its called Transfats. They are Unsaturated fats, however they behave in the same way as Saturated fats, they can lower the levels of good cholesterol and raise the the levels of bad cholesterol. They are found in small amounts in beef and lamb, milk and cheese. The worse cause of transfats, comes from food processing, when vegetable oils are heated to high temperatures and hydrogenated to make the oils hard such as in cooking fats, margarine and shortening for baking. They can be hidden in foods that you probably eat quite regularly, like fast food takeaways, pies and cakes. This is the most serious health hazard in oils, because you do not even know that it is in the product, also the fact that it is mostly in the common everyday food consumed. Think about French Fies, Potato Chips, Meat Pies, Pastries, Biscuits or Cookies, Some Chocolate, Some Margarines.

The Good Fats, Polyunsaturated Fats, they are very good for reducing your cholesterol levels, where are these goodies found?, they are found in seafood, in the germ of all grains, usually they are extracted from seeds to make cooking oils.

Monounsaturated Fats, They will help to reduce Cholesterol levels, they are found naturally in Avocados,

Peanuts, Almonds, Hazlenuts, Cashews, Brazill Nuts, Olives and Olive Oil and Peanut Oil, You have a good choice of these good oils, so start using them, You will benefit in the end, with better health.

Omega-3 Fats,They are similar to polyunsaturated oils, very good for the health of your heart, as they can lower levels of Triglycerides, and thins your blood, just a little. Where can I get these little beauties? They are in most seafood, especially in naturally oily fish. It does not harm you in any way, I know a lot of people like seafood, but there are also a lot, that hate the stuff. However, if you can eat seafood, you should have it on your menu, at least once a week, and I don't mean the fish that is deep fried in a thick batter. If you really are unable to eat fish because you dislike it so much, you could consider having Omega-3 oils in a supplement form, such as capsules.

Omega-6 Fats, they are a polyunsaturated fat found in nuts and seeds and in Soy and Safflower oils.
One of the best products available for Omega oils, if you do not like eating fish, is Rice Bran, it does not contain as much of the Omega Oils as fish, but it is a very good substitute. It can be used in Stews and Soups, sprinkled on Breakfast cereals, or mixed in a fruit drink or milk, It tastes OK, helps the heart, keeps you regular, but does not cause bloating or flatulence.

A hundred years or so ago, heart disease was almost unheard of, why?, because everyone was eating foods that were natural, not the processed fast foods we are eating today.
